Dot Plot
Construction Using Minitab Release 13
Step 1. Click the Minitab icon on your
computer to open a new Minitab project. On the screen should appear
something akin to this.
Step 2. Enter the data into the
worksheet, either (1) by copying columns from an Excel spreadsheet, Minitab worksheet,
or a web page table, if the data have already been entered
elsewhere, or (2) by manually entering the data into each cell. For the
Dot Plot of the Frequency of Percentage of
Weekly Visitors Visiting One of the Summary Web Pages of a Web-Page-Rich
Website, after the data entry the screen appeared thusly.
Step 3. Click Graph on the top bar
to obtain a drop down menu and move the cursor down to Dotplot....
The cursor causes the selection to be highlighted.
Step 4. Click Dotplot... to obtain a
dialog box.
Step 5. Place the cursor over the variable in
the left-most window of the dialog box and click it to obtain:
Note that the letters of the Select button have
become darkened and the button has been made active.
Step 6. Move the cursor down to the Select
button and click it. The variable name is entered into the
Variable window, as seen in the following screen.
Step 7. Click the Title box and type in
the title. You have:
Click the OK button to obtain:
Step 8. Note that the title is abbreviated. To
type in the full title, first double click the title (or any other
part of the Dotplot window). You obtain the
addition of the Tools and Attributes bars.
Step 9. Drag the Tools and
Attributes bars to the side and double click the title again.
You obtain:
Step 10. In the window of the Text
dialog box, you may complete the title or completely redo it. When
the title is as you wish, click the OK button. You have:
As there is no way to center the
title, you must narrow it by (1) moving the cursor to one of the sides
of the title boundary (diagonal crosshairs appear) and (2) dragging the side inward until the
lengths of the top and bottom lines are about the same. Then drag
the title to the position that you prefer. You have:
Step 11. If you wish to change
the axis label as well, double clicking the axis label and
follow the above procedure. Below, the axis label "% of Visitor" was changed to "Percentage of Visitors"
and repositioned.
Step 11. To add a design or logo,
use the Tool
bar. Below, a circle was added by clicking the oval in
the Tool bar and dragging the crosshairs across a section of the
Dotplot
window.
Below, (1) the color of the circle
was changed to yellow by clicking the upper color icon in the
Attributes bar and selecting yellow from the palette menu and
(2) the circle was filled with yellow by clicking the lower
color icon in the Attributes bar and selecting yellow from
the palette menu. (If you wish a color other than those available in

Step 12. To add text for the
logo, click
T in the Tools
bar and drag the crosshairs across part of the Dotplot window.
You have another Text dialog box.
In the window of the Text
dialog box, type a name or message and click the OK button.
Then drag the text to the desired position.
Step 13. Next click an empty space of the Dotplot window
for final review of your dot plot. If all is okay, right
click the window to obtain the following menu.
Step 14. Click "Copy Graph" in the menu window
and then paste it into a Word document. This gives the below gif
picture.
From Word, you may (if your intent is
to place the picture on a web page) paste the picture into your
web page editor and crop and resize it to preference. Resizing may
significantly distort the image; cropping should present no problem. |
