Stem-and-Leaf
Construction Using Minitab Release 13
Here we assume that the data have
already been entered into the worksheet and some tasks have already
been performed by Minitab (in particular, a dot plot has already
been constructed from the data, as set forth in
Dot Plot
Construction Using Minitab Release 13).
We begin with:
We flatten the Dotplot window
to remove clutter. To do such, click the minimization button (third
from right) in the upper right hand corner of the Dotplot
window. We have:
Next click Graph on the top bar
to obtain a drop down menu and move the cursor down to
Stem-and-Leaf....
The cursor causes the selection to be highlighted.
Click Stem-and-Leaf... to obtain a
dialog box.
Move the cursor over the variable in
the left most window of the dialog box and click it to obtain:
Note that the letters of the Select button have
become darkened and the button - active. Move the cursor down to the Select
button and click it. The variable name is entered into the
Variable window, as is seen below.
We do not want to trim outliers and
the Minitab program usually provides the best increments for a
Stem-and-Leaf Display, so we click the OK button to obtain:
We drag the bottom border of the
Session window to expand it and use the scrolling bar on the
right to obtain a full view of the Stem-and-Leaf Display. We have:
Next we highlight the Stem-and-Leaf
display...
and right click the highlighted region
to obtain a menu box.
We click "Copy" in the menu box,
insert a Text Box in a Word document, and click the paste icon. We
have:
With some reformatting of the Text Box
and word processing within it, we have:
We narrow the Text Box a bit more to
obtain our final product.
